The Killingworth Foundation Scholarships
The deadline for applications is March 1 of each calendar year. Once the application is received, the Foundation will schedule an interview with the applicant. Applicants will be notified of the Foundation’s decision by May 1.
To apply for a scholarship:
- You must be a Killingworth resident.
- You must currently be enrolled as a full-time high school student. If you are home-schooled, equivalent status must be verified.
- You must have a cumulative high school grade point average equivalent to a “B” or higher at the time of application.
- You must be applying to a post-secondary educational institution.
- The Foundation’s application, including the required hand-written essay. Please be advised that everything counts on your application: neatness, legibility, spelling, grammar, and providing the information as requested are important.
- An official transcript from your high school, including SAT and/or ACT scores. Please have your transcript sent directly to the Foundation from the Guidance Department at your high school. If you are home-schooled, equivalent documents must be presented
The Board of Directors reserves the right to waive or amend any or all of the provisions set forth above to best serve the purposes of The Foundation.
Assistance from the Foundation
The Killingworth Foundation, Inc. will consider grant requests for projects, which, in the judgment of its Board of Directors, will improve the quality of life in the Town of Killingworth. The Board has developed these Guidelines to assist applicants for grants.
The Foundation’s Distribution Committee is primarily interested in how the proposed project will help the organization achieve its established goals, solve a critical problem, or prepare for the next steps in its development to meet the stated needs.
The Foundation’s financial support may be used only for the direct costs of implementing proposed projects.
Grants shall be limited to:
Grants are not to be made:
The Foundation will consider proposals involving a challenge grant in order to stimulate support of a project by other funding resources. The grant would be conditional upon the receipt of other pledges made to the grantee.
The grantee must demonstrate financial responsibility.
Except in special situations, grants will be for one-time projects only, although distribution of project funds may be spread over an appropriate period of time. Grants will be made on an annual basis, generally in a lump sum. However, the Directors reserve the option of paying large grants over a multi-year period.
The Killingworth Foundation will not accept applications from individuals, except for scholarships. Nor will the Foundation support the following types of organizations or activities:
If more information is needed or the application is deemed non-compliant, the Distribution Committee may contact the applicant.
The Foundation requires from the grantees a follow-up report at completion of project, or every six (6) months until the completion of the project. The report should provide an accounting of grant expenditures and status of project. Any unused funds from a grant are to be returned to the Foundation with the final report.

- tax-exempt [501(c)(3)], not-for-profit, equal opportunity organizations recognized as such by the Internal Revenue Service
- the municipality of Killingworth.
Grants are not to be made:
- to individuals
- for endowments
- for deficit financing
- for reimbursement for items purchased prior to the grant request.
- prospect for success;
- evidence of sound management practices, including record keeping that insures accountability for funds advanced; and
- clear, attainable goals relevant to community needs.

- research projects, unless associated with a specific action project.

- should include a completed standard Killingworth Foundation Grant Application format;
- should include statements from individuals substantiating need and importance of project;
- should include the names and addresses of the organization’s Trustees or Board of Directors;
- should include latest audited financial report or tax return, if applicable.
