Killingworth Foundation Offers Tuition Assistance for Summer Camps
The Killingworth Foundation, with a lead gift from the Auer Family Fund, has established a tuition assistance program for Killingworth families that would otherwise be unable to enroll their children in summer programs run by the Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department or the Killingworth Land Conservation Trust.

“We know that many families are facing difficult economic decisions, and we hope this program will allow them to consider options that they would otherwise have had to forgo,” said Nancy Dodson, president of the Killingworth Foundation.

The HK Recreation Department runs an array of summer camps for children from preschoolers to teens. Offerings include sports camps and specialty camps on topics from green energy to movie making, as well as classic summer camp with arts & crafts, swimming, field trips, and more. A brochure describing the camps was mailed to all households in Killingworth and is also available on line at www.hkrec.com. If you would like to apply for financial assistance, please contact director Frank Sparks, at 860-345-8334. Inquiries will be kept confidential.

The Killingworth Land Conservation Trust runs summer camp programs at the Platt Nature Center on Roast Meat Hill Road. This summer, space is available for children entering third and fourth grade in the Platt Nature Center’s Let’s Find Out program during the week of July 12th. For more information, contact the Center at 860-663-1609.

The William (Bill ‘C’) Cieslukowski Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually in memory of the principal of Killingworth Elementary School from 1982 to 1993, will administer the Killingworth Foundation’s tuition assistance for Let’s Find Out. To apply for assistance from the Killingworth Foundation or the Bill C Scholarship, please contact Mary Anne Lisk at 860-663-1121.

The Killingworth Foundation aims to make summer assistance an ongoing program and hopes that other donors will step up and contribute to the effort. “We set up the Auer Family Fund to help the young people of our town,” said Eric Auer, a member of the Killingworth Foundation’s Board of Directors, “and making it possible for kids to participate in these summer camps is exactly the sort of thing we had in mind.” Donations to this fund can be sent to The Killingworth Foundation at P.O. Box 621, Killingworth, Ct. 06419.
